Dr. Alfonso Pérez Rodríguez has been granted by the EU with a Marie Curie Postdoc contract to develope the project GADCAP. He developed his PhD. thesis “An integrative study to the functioning of the Flemish Cap demersal community” between the Institute of Marine Research in Vigo (Spain) and the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre in St. John´s (Newfoundland-Canada) under the supervision of Fran Saborido Rey and Mariano Koen Alonso respectively. Since then, his scientific activity has been focused in the dynamic of marine communities subjected by fishing from a comprehensive perspective, analyzing and taking into account the most important processes for population and community dynamic like growth, reproduction, predation, oceanography or fishing. Alfonso Pérez is very interested in the application of this knowledge into fish stock assessment, i.e. the ecosystem approach to fisheries management. He has been an active member of the Working Group on Ecosystem Science and Assessment (WGESA) of NAFO from 2009.
